The clocks went back and weather got crap!

We've all been here before, and here we go again. The clocks go back, the daylight hours shrink, and suddenly it feels like you're living inside a never-ending grey cloud. It's not just you, the weather genuinely can affect your mood, turning even the sunniest of dispositions gloomy.

But don't worry, I've got you, because here’s the thing, sometimes we can't change our environment, but we can adjust how we interact with it. So, how do we find the sunshine within ourselves even when the skies are persistently overcast? Here are three beautiful ways to light up your life from the inside out.

Tip 1 - Light Up Your Internal World

We might not be able to control the sun, but we can control our surroundings. Try turning your home into a haven of warmth and light. Brighten up your living spaces with strategically placed lamps that mimic natural light. Set up a cosy reading nook with plush pillows, a soft blanket and your favourite books, or simply spend time in rooms with lighter colours that make you feel uplifted. Consider lighting candles in the evening—not just for the additional light but for the comforting aroma and the soft, flickering ambience they create. You can make every night feel like a sparkly date night in and treat yourself to some warming soups to nourish your soul and heat you up from the inside out.

Tip 2 - Engage in Mood-Lifting Activities

We often underestimate the power of engaging in activities that genuinely bring us joy. When it’s gloomy outside, resist the urge to hibernate and instead, get active. If outdoor sports aren’t an option, consider indoor activities like a dancing class or just shaking your funky stuff in your living room, yoga, or even a simple workout routine. Physical activity releases endorphins, which naturally elevate your mood, it also warms you up. If exercise isn't your thing, how about diving into a creative project, cooking a new recipe, or watching a feel-good movie? These activities not only divert your attention from the dreary weather but also inject a bit of sunshine into your soul.

Tip 3 - Practice Gratitude and Mindfulness

Let's face it, it's easy to focus on the dark clouds and forget the silver linings, especially when everything around you seems bleak. That's why practicing gratitude and mindfulness can be such game-changers. Take a moment each day to jot down three things you're grateful for. It could be as simple as a hot cup of tea, (I know this is an elusive thing for new mums, but see if you can get to that tea whilst it’s still warm, that’s got to be worth celebrating!) it could be a call from a friend, or even the rare sunbeam breaking through the clouds. Being present and appreciating these little moments can make a world of difference in shifting your mindset from gloomy to grateful.

When the clocks go back and the weather turns dismal, it’s tempting to let our moods sink into a similar darkness. But remember, we have the power to be our light source. So, as you navigate through these dreary days, use these tips to let your inner sunshine break through the clouds. Because, ultimately, the weather might be something we can't control, but our outlook on life is entirely up to us.

Sending you all

loving warm hugs x
